End of Term 3

happy-students-clipart-1.jpg

Hi Prep Families,

We are nearly at the end of Term 3. It has been a very busy and fulfilled Term. The students all had a wonderful time participating in the Footy Road Show last week. It was a huge hit! This week we had the Dolphin Research Institute come into the classrooms for an incursion about rock pools and how we need to be responsible custodians for all living things and how we can look after the planet.

Next term we are looking at money and procedure writing. If you have any coins/notes from other countries, it would be great if you could send them in with your children for us to explore. We are going to Kunyung Beach for an excursion with the Dolphin Research Institute, which will be very exciting. We also have swimming at the end of the term. We will also be continuing with Problem Solving and Numeration.

Please keep up with as much reading as you can over the holidays. Have a wonderful break and enjoy watching the Grand Final!

to those parents who have kindly offered their time, to help run this valuable program.

The PMP sessions will run every Monday afternoon during term 2 between 2:30 and 3:30pm.

We have also been fortunate enough, to have had a dedicated group of parents offering their time to assist us in the classrooms, during our Literacy workshops over the past few weeks. The students and teachers are really enjoying the opportunity to work collaboratively with our Kunyung parent community, to improve our students skills and confidence in Literacy.

The Briars

EarthDay_Tommy2

Thank You

On Wednesday this week, the Preps headed off on our first excursion for the year. We caught a bus to The Briars and we were all very excited and in some cases, a little bit apprehensive too! When we arrived, we got into our little groups and quickly made our way to the Expo paddock where we got to find out about all sorts of things.

We had opportunities to;

Plant seeds and seedlings,

Meet reptiles and other animals,

Make badges,

Find out about the water cycle

&

Create a screen print

…just to name a few!!!

We had a fabulous day and it was all made possible thanks to our amazing parent helpers who looked after us on the day.

So we would like to say

Thank you

Up and Running.

bus

At the moment in Prep we are continuing with our initial assessments to find out what students already know.

This will enable us to make use of the

Kunyung Learning Cycle

First, we ask ourselves…“What do we want to learn?”

Then, we consider… “How will we best learn?”

Importantly, we also need to think about… “How will we know what we have learned?”

As part of our Inquiry into people and their roles and responsibilities within the Kunyung Primary School Community, we will soon be off on our first excursion for the year. We are getting ready for our excursion to The Briars on Wednesday 16th March and the excitement is building!!!

Please look out for a notice that will be coming home this week with more details and if you can, take the opportunity to join us on our excursion – for a day of investigation in the Expo paddock.

We are looking forward to a fabulous  start to school for our new Preps, who are beginning on Monday 1st February.

To ensure that personal items do not go missing please take a minute to clearly label all of your child’s possessions  with their name and grade if you have not already done so.

Each day students will require a piece of fruit or a vegetable to have as a midmorning snack and they will also be required to wear their school hat each day during term 1. Students will store their hats in their classrooms during term 1 for easy access.

this term

In Maths,  we are conducting individual assessments, in order to find out what children already know. We are also working on copying, continuing and creating patterns and  finding out about shape.

In Literacy, we are learning strategies to help us become great readers. We are learning to make predictions and to use a variety of strategies to solve words. We are also about to begin our journal writing, whilst we continue to practise writing the letters of the alphabet using the correct formation.

In Inquiry, we are finding out about how people play different roles in the communities to which they belong.

Spreading Joy at Christmas

SPREADING JOY AT CHRISTMAS

This term MA has been inquiring into what organisations are and how they are created to meet people’s needs.

We have decided that we will create our own class organisation to meet a human need and learn what is required to make an organisation function well.

ACTION on our learning ……….

In the last 3 weeks of the school year, MA is organising Christmas boxes for those less fortunate.

We are asking for donations of foods, toys, games and books that your children have outgrown.

Donations can be delivered to Room 9 or placed in the appropriate boxes in the office area.

Thankyou, in advance, for your generosity.

MA and Anne Allchin

On this day, they will be required to bring along a pair of pyjamas or a set of old clothes in their swimming bags, to wear in the water. They will still need to arrive at school with their bathers under their school clothes, as they have been doing previously.

If you have any questions/concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s class teacher.

PREP & JUNIOR HOUSE ATHLETICS

Next Friday (30/10/2015) the Preps will be participating in a fun-filled morning of athletics events, as part of the Prep and Junior House Athletics Day. Students will need to come to school dressed in their house colours , wearing appropriate footwear and sunscreen.

Many helpers will be needed on the day to ensure things run smoothly, so if you are able to offer your services, it would be greatly appreciated!

We are looking forward to having fun and getting fit with our friends – all at the same time.

transition

TRANSITION

The Preps participated in their first transition session this week, getting a chance to visit some of our Junior grades. It was excitement all ’round and upon their return to their regular classrooms at the end of the day, the students were abuzz with stories of what they had seen, what they had done and the new friends they had made.

“Aaahh, as teachers we lament that they year is moving by so quickly and we’re sure, that as parents, you do too!!!!”
